By 1909, the banker Albert Kahn (1860-1940) decided to devote part of his fortune to the establishment of a photographic memory and filmography of the planet. Based in Boulogne in 1893, the Financial is an active member of the intelligentsia of the time. Friend of Henri Bergson and Auguste Rodin, he receives at home the big names in politics, arts and letters. As there is according to him, on all sides, "aspects, practices and modes of human activity whose disappearance fatal only a matter of time", it sends professionals in the world with the mission to bring as much evidence of what they saw. It funds include, among other works and foundations, shooting campaigns in not less than fifty countries between 1909 and 1931. The museum collections and archives of the planet and reporting, photography and cinematography he did achieve in the world, and maintain a fund known as the "Archives of the Planet", consisting of 72,000 autochromes (first method of photography colors) and 180,000 meters of silent films. The documents are available individually, and some temporary exhibitions allow visitors to discover more specifically part of the fund statement. The museum is located on the property of Albert Kahn in Boulogne-Billancourt, in four acres of gardens combining landscape scenes of various traditions.
