A few steps from the French-Italian border, Villa Maria Serena was built around 1880 and attributed to Charles Garnier, architect of the Paris Opera, for his friend Ferdinand de Lesseps. The garden, acres, built around the villa is an invitation to the exotic. He is reputed to be the most temperate of France (the temperature is never less than 5 °). Plant tropical, subtropical, a rare dragon of the Canaries and a large collection of palms, cycads were acclimated in this haven of warm paradise offering a unique view of Menton and its old town.
