40460 SANGUINET
Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet is one of the great lakes Landes, in succession along the Aquitaine coast, between countries and country of Buch Born. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Cazaux, to the east and south by Sanguinet Biscarrosse. The canal connects the Landes in Arcachon Bay and Lake Biscarrosse and parents, between which it is located.
Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet formed by accumulation of water from the plain of Les Landes, in particular through the Gourgue, rivers along which the ancient village of Losa had been established before disappearing under the water.
The site of Sanguinet was gradually explored, carefully measured and inventoried in the 1980s. Divers of CRESS (Centre for Research and Studies Sublacustres Sanguinet) have identified several sites of the Iron Age in the old bed of the Gourgue. The level of the lake was indeed high in historical times, covering buildings and furniture, in particular several dugout canoes of maritime pine and oak.
