Centerpiece of the fortresses of the Pyrenean foothills, overlooking the city, the castle remains a major witness in the history of Lourdes from 11th to 19th century. In 1995, it is classified a historical monument. Over the centuries, it passes from hand to hand and underwent many changes: in turn residence of the Count of Bigorre, a medieval fortress, prison and royal garrison, and it now houses the Pyrenean Museum (Folk Art). Several defensive architectural elements still testify to the military post of first order. You will discover the drawbridge, the tank, equipped with the fortified gate of his harrow and his bludgeon, and the dungeon. Its current look great it is given by the three successive lines of defense as well as changes made by the architect Vauban in 1685 and the Military Engineering in the 19th century. Following the walkway, you will reach the platform of artillery, the Cavalier South Pointe, which offers a vast panorama of the city, the Sanctuary, and the Pyrenees.
