Vollore is known in the history of Auvergne since the sixth century when Thierry, son of Clovis, besieged it in 532.
The Fortress of which remains today the imposing Roman tower, was built in the twelfth century by the ancient family of Vollore. The castle then passed to the families of Thiers, and Chazeron of the seventeenth century the Montmorin process and give it its present appearance.
In the same family for two centuries, Vollore is now the home of descendants living in Auvergne General de La Fayette.
