The Castle Valprivas existed in 935. The Renaissance party remained virtually intact. The chapel, "rededicated" in 1493, kept two large murals in the early seventeenth century by the painters of the workshop Peter Paul Rubens, who had settled in Lyon after working at the Chateau de Fontainebleau.
In the sixteenth century Valprivas was the residence of the Verd Antoine Verdier, Lieutenant General of the United Lyonnais, friend of the poets of the Pleiade and author of the "Bibliothèque Françoise". Sequestered during the Revolution, sold as a "national asset" to the Restoration it was restored in 1963 by the Cultural Centre which has its headquarters and its activities throughout the year.
