The Cathedral of Saint-Sauveur is located on the site of the University of Aix en Provence.
This monument, built on the site of the ancient forum and, according to legend, on the foundations of an ancient temple dedicated to the god Apollo, brings together a multitude of architectural styles, because of the many changes it underwent over the centuries .
Its dimensions are 70 meters long and 46 meters wide.
Its elevation is 20 feet below the keystone.
The facade, there are three stages of construction of the building: first the front of the Romanesque nave naked was built in the twelfth century, followed a few years later by the wall made of blocks and Ancient bosses, mounted on beds Bast. The only recent one is the gate that closes the Gothic nave and is dated the sixteenth century.
Around the cathedral are built over the centuries the buildings that are joined together as the building of the monastic community of canons (late twelfth century), the buildings of the cloister (eleventh to thirteenth centuries) or the bell tower (completed in 1425 ).
