In the peaceful village of Gestingthorpe on the border of Essex and Suffolk is The Pheasant pub. The pub’s Coach House offers boutique accommodation in a rural location just 15 minutes’ drive from Sudbury. Each room is dedicated to a local icon and are individually designed using plush fabrics and fine furnishings. The rooms are en suite and feature luxury toiletries, free Wi-Fi and tea/coffee-making facilities. The Pheasant has views over the surrounding farmland, and there are many pretty local walks. Guests can finish the day by the open fire in the pub’s restaurant, where locally sourced ingredients are used to create classic cuisine. The Pheasant won entry into The Good Food Guide for 2017, The Michelin Guide and AA pub of the year 2014/15. Colchester is a 40-minute drive from the pub and provides rail connections on to London or further up into Suffolk.
