The history of the village is linked to its castle. It was constructed in the 11th Century by the Lords of Semur, the first Barons of Forez, who carried the title of Sires. Until the 15th Century the castle belonged to the powerful Damas Household. Listed as an historical monument in 1890, since 1930 the castle has belonged to Diana, an historical archaeology company in Forez which protects and restores the construction. From this fortress, today there remains an impressive architectural style of the medieval military with its Saint-Jean chatelet, three punctuated walls and impregnable fortress. From the top, the panoramic view over the plain, the Lyonnais hills in Forez and l'Auvergne, is a wonder.
