Relax in this magnificent gite, its garden and the surrounding countryside of the Périgord Vert.
A short walk from Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie, a well-known village with an organic store, restaurant, market and friendly community.
Our barrier house is on the Limoges - Périgueux line with about 12 small trains a day.
See you soon at Frugîte!
With stunning views of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park, the gatekeeper's house is a typical French SNCF house, years before it was inhabited by a family who manually raised and lowered barriers across the railway. These days, the barriers are automated, but the trains will honk if you wave at them as they pass.
The house offers a large bedroom with dressing room, a shower, a separate toilet and a beautiful view from the upstairs window over the fields of sheep and the woods of the village.
On the ground floor of the kitchen, the heart of the house has a wood-burning stove, an Aga cooker, a dishwasher, a fridge and a dining table with a view of the the garden. A small living room at the back of the house offers a television, books and games. The house is next to the local apple juice farm, where fresh bread is also baked every Tuesday and Thursday, delivery can be arranged to the house.
Outside, the gite's garden is filled with herbs, flowers and fruit trees. We are in rural France so are often visited by an array of wildlife including deer, hedgehogs, badgers, bees and butterflies. We do not use pesticides on our garden and try to encourage wild spaces and increase biodiversity as much as possible.
The garden offers a seating area and a long table for lazy lunches and aperitifs. At night, don't miss the opportunity to sit on the deckchairs and watch the shooting stars. The Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park is known as a special area with limited light at night, perfect for stargazing.
