Château de la Tremblaye Cholet

The château de la Tremblaye, a work by the famous architect René Hodé, was built in 1862 on the site of the Battle of Cholet where Lescure, the great Vendée leader was mortally wounded. 1793: Vendée rose up, Lescure, the great Vendée leader was arrested and mortally wounded in Tremblaye, and the 15th century castle was burned. In 1862, a wealthy industrialist from Saumur, a rosary manufacturer, entrusted the construction of a new castle to the famous architect from Anjou, René Hodé. The Count of Choulot designed the park. In 1936, the family donated the Tremblaye to the Brothers of St. Gabriel who set-up a juvenate there. In 1977, the castle became a restaurant, and then in 1997 major renovations were undertaken in order to open a boutique hotel.
