Compiègne is a former residence of kings. The museum seeks to restore what was their living. The rehabilitation of the apartments is based on the method of restitution of historical states, applied here since 1943. The goal is to make a play aspect it presented a specific date, chosen based on the opportunity to present a historical state as complete as possible. Much of the Flats is returned in a state of the First Empire. Some pieces are presented in their condition Louis XVI, others in their state Second Empire. Compiègne holding a special place in the history of the Second Empire, the consolidation of memories of this period in the national collections there is a gradual process, completed by deposits of other origins.
