Situated opposite the Palais des Festivals, is the central church in Cannes. Built in the 16th century to protect the inhabitants of Cannes of bubonic plague, the church was a Bon Voyage chapel called Notre Dame des Sables, for its proximity to the sand dunes, and then became Our Lady of the sea in the 19th century after being sold and bought by the city, the chapel became Notre-Dame de Bon Port, and sheltered by the end of the century the fishermen who had lost their chapel of St. Peter. In 1815, under the walls of this chapel ignored all that Napoleon returned from Elba, spent his first night on French soil. Finally, after work, November 2, 1879, the chapel became a church and was placed under the protection of Our Lady of Good Voyage.
