This medieval fortress is giving way to a royal residence during the reigns of Kings Charles VIII and François 1st (late fifteenth and early sixteenth century). The Court and many European scholars and artists stay in Amboise at the invitation of the sovereigns, the example of Leonardo da Vinci, whose tomb is kept in the castle chapel.
