The church was built in the early thirteenth century, to meet the needs of a growing population. She quickly received many donations, including from the bailiff of Chaumont. It is built in collegiate December 18, 1474 by Pope Sixtus IV. Considerable work is involved from the years 1517 until 1543, the building is richly decorated in the eighteenth century. It was erected in minor basilica in 1948.
The facade facing west and the nave date from the thirteenth century, the entrance is the gate Saint-Jean south and typical of the Gothic style of the fourteenth century. The choir and transept date from the fifteenth century and sixteenth century. The great organ of the basilica is a Cavaille-Coll built in 1872, he was inaugurated the same year by Charles-Marie Widor. This organ has three manuals and pedals. It consists of 37 registers. The buffet is the style of Louis XV. Holder is Vincent Freppel.
The choir organ is signed Jaquot-Jeanpierre (Rambervillers in the Vosges), the factory is still operating today, dates from 1891. It consists of a manual keyboard (8 games) and a pedal without own games. The buffet is Gothic Revival.
