If driving down, then a useful web site is www.mappy.com where you can plan your route from home and include any stops. This will show the Autoroute signs as you see them and easier to follow. They also tell you when to expect the toll booths and the price. Please note that they may not be exact prices due to increases, but they will only be a few cents out and give you an idea. The fastest, least expensive and one of the more attractive auto routes down to Marseillette is by skirting Paris, towards Orleans and on towards Limoges down to Toulouse. The above web site should provide that for you.

From Toulouse. While there are flights from Stansted to Carcassonne, the nearest International Airport is Blagnac airport in Toulouse. For the drive from the airport to the house we suggest that you allow two hours although the journey should not take as long as this, especially if you take the Autoroute (approx 1 hour). When you leave the airport follow the blue road-signs 'Montpellier / Barcelona'. The Autoroute is free within Toulouse itself. When you reach the eastern outskirts of the city you will see that you can remain on the Autoroute following the blue road-signs Montpellier / Barcelona or take the Route Nationale towards Carcassonne following the green signs.

If you take the Autoroute, the A61 'Des Deux Mers', you should leave it at the East Carcassonne exit towards Trebes. You will then join the Route Nationale N113. Turn right towards Trebes. From this point, you will follow the directions 'From Trebes' given below.

If you take the Route Nationale from Toulouse, you will pass through the villages of Alzone and Pezens just to the west of Carcassonne. As you approach Carcassonne you will come to a large roundabout. If you wish, you can drive through Carcassonne to Trebes on the Narbonne road, but it can be a bottleneck at certain times of the day. Otherwise, turn right at the roundabout on to the western Carcassonne bypass. At the next roundabout (***), you can either turn right on to the Autoroute (in which case you should come off at the East Carcassonne exit towards Trebes); or you can take the next turning off the roundabout (signposted ‘Limoux, Maquens’) which brings you onto the southern by-pass around Carcassonne. If you take the latter course you will go up a slight rise and down the other side to some traffic lights. Turn left at the lights, marked 'St. Hilaire'; after two or three hundred yards turn right at the roundabout and follow the signs to Trebes and Narbonne. Eventually this road will bring you out at the Route Nationale. Turn right towards Trebes.

From Trebes. As you approach Trebes go under the railway bridge and turn left towards 'Centre Ville'. Stay on the main road D610 through Trebes heading towards Marseillette and Olanzac. As you go through Marseillette you pass the “Marie” (Mayors office with flag outside) on the right, La Poste (the Post Office) is to your left. Take the first road on the left after La Poste. This is Chemin de l’Etang which brings you alongside the Canal
Continue to the last house on the right just before the bridge over the lock. Turn into the last entrance and there is plenty of parking on the gravel area under the tree. Please do not obstruct the opening to the boat house as this is where we park our cars.

From Carcassonne Airport. There are 3 route options.

1. Turn left at the airport exit heading for Centre Ville. Within a short distance you will see a sign for a right turn, marked ‘Limoux’. Take that right turn which brings you on to the western Carcassonne bypass. After a little less than a mile on the bypass, you will come to the large roundabout marked (***) in an earlier paragraph. Thereafter, follow the directions in that paragraph.

2. Another option from the airport is to turn left out of the airport heading for Centre Ville and at the next roundabout turn left signposted Toulouse. (L’eclerc supermarket will be off to the left further on). Straight across at the roundabout towards Mazamet. Keep going straight on across all 5 roundabouts until you reach the sign post for Trebes / Narbonne taking you off to the right and then pick up the instructions as above From Trebes. Preferred option due to new road.

From Narbonne. If you approach from Narbonne on the Autoroute, you may leave it at Lezignan or at the East Carcassonne exit towards Trebes (see above). Travelling west from Lezignan on the Route Nationale N113, you will need to turn right at Capendu onto the D57 heading towards Marseillette. See below.

From Capendu. Take either turning off the N113 towards Marseillette. Head towards the village centre. Turn right on to the D610 towards Olanzac. Pass the Boulangerie, and La Poste. Once you pass La Poste it is the next road on your left, turn left into Chemin de l’Etang and take the last house on the right before the canal bridge.
