This is a delightful and spacious two bedroomed stone gîte in an enclosed courtyard making it perfect for family friendly holidays.
Le Gîte du Portail is approached through grand entrance gates and has its own large, partially shaded garden with extensive views over wonderful open countryside. This gîte has been carefully renovated and recently modernised to a high standard, offering spacious accommodation for up to four people.
Le Gîte du Portail is surprisingly large inside with thick stone walls, making it beautifully cool during the hot summer months. On the ground floor there is a comfortable open plan sitting and dining room which leads through to the attractive kitchen which is fitted with a dishwasher, cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave and offers plenty of storage space.
A spiral staircase leads to a large upper hallway with access to the bedrooms and the bathrooms. The main bedroom is approximately 6m x 5m, with a beamed, vaulted ceiling and a super king-size bed. A feature of this bedroom is a small stained glass window, which was hand-crafted locally by an artist who has renovated windows of Salisbury Cathedral in England.
There is an en-suite shower room with a toilet. The second bedroom has twin beds.
Both rooms have ample wardrobe and draw space and benefit from fitted carpets and rugs.
There are fans in both rooms and a hair dryer is provided. There is a well-appointed modern bathroom with a full size bath, toilet and separate shower. Across the small lane in front of the gîte is a private garden, with lovely trees offering plenty of shade and extensive views over the adjoining fields.
A perfect spot to do a bit of bird watching or catch the spectacular sunsets we get in this region. A patio table, chairs, umbrella and a gas barbeque are provided.

Le Manoir La Foye is within easy reach of the A10 autoroute (J33 & 34) giving full access to the Channel ports. St Malo is only just over 4 hours drive.
We are just over an hour from the following:
La Rochelle - Airport
Poitiers - Airport and TGV
and 2 hours from Bordeaux, Nantes and Tours Airports.
We are only 15 minutes from the town of Aulnay and 10 minutes drive to the small town of Néré.

The local area
Located in the Charente-Maritime, part of the larger Poitou-Charente region on the southwest coast of France. The hamlet of La Foye is surrounded by fields of sunflowers, vineyards and forests. It enjoys long hot summers and very mild winters which are so necessary for the production of fine grapes used to make the wonderful wines and Cognac. It is known locally as the 'western Mediterranean' and enjoys the second highest number of sunshine hours in France (after the Côte D’Azur).

we had a very relaxing holiday, comfortable lodging,the Gite has everything it needs, Nick & Chania excellent hosts and knowledgable about the area. The games room was a topper for young and old in the evenings.

We had a lovely stay at this wonderful gîte and property of Nick and Chania. Everything was perfect, gîte was spacious and had everything you needed and more! Prachtige gite bij een zeer gastvrij Engels echtpaar. We hebben volop genoten ook van de gezamenlijke maandagavonden (met de andere gasten paella en of BBQ gebruiken). De tips van Nick en Chania wat te doen in de omgeving waren erg prettig. Kortom, aanrader om hier een periode te verblijven!
