Le Four à Chaux is a large but intimate Provençal country house, built in stone and carefully restored.
It has great character with old staircases, terracotta tiled floors, wooden beamed ceilings and family furnishings giving a welcoming and friendly feel. The house is set within peaceful countryside, surrounded by vineyards, an adjoining property and a handful of neighbouring homes.
It will therefore suit those seeking a quiet location in which to relax. The beautiful, landscaped gardens offer far-reaching views to the front and rear of the property.
Open and covered terraces offer different options for outdoor dining and relaxing.
There is always a peaceful spot to be found in shade or sun. The rear garden overlooks the Côtes-du-Rhône valley and the ancient villages of Sablet, Séguret and Rasteau. The garden opens directly onto our private vineyard and is the perfect spot for enjoying the spectacular sunsets.
A dining terrace with traditional Provençal furniture leads on to a lawn laid to grass and a separate paved patio.
In summer the long stone dining table is pleasantly shaded by a vine-covered canopy. The south-facing front garden has a large lawn surrounded by established borders and fencing.
Around the gated swimming pool (11 x 5.5 m) are a summer kitchen with dining table and barbecue, a terrace with sun loungers and a separate seating area with wooden benches.
The pool is unheated, but enjoys summer sunshine from morning until early evening.
There is also a long stone dining table shaded by a mature bay tree, a separate breakfast terrace and numerous areas for relaxing.
A special feature of the front garden is that it is sheltered from the Mistral wind. On the ground floor of the house, the main entrance hall leads into a large living room with plenty of comfortable seating, a raised dining area with a circular table suitable for eight and a traditional fireplace.
There is a small separate television room with an adjacent downstairs cloakroom. Although the house is not air-conditioned, the thick stone walls and wooden shutters are naturally cooling and provide protection from summer heat and direct sunlight.
A full central heating system keeps the house warm in cooler seasons. A hallway leads to the cosy kitchen with a classic range cooker, marble work surfaces, two fridges, a wooden table for informal dining and a raised open fireplace. Next to the kitchen is a utility room with freezer, washing machine and dryer.. There is also a sink and stainless steel worktop.
A door from the kitchen leads up five stone steps, past a small herb border, onto the south-facing dining terrace and gardens. Three separate staircases lead to the upper floors.
This means that the bedrooms are well-spaced and offer plenty of privacy. The tiled, entrance hall staircase leads to the first and second floor master bedrooms. The first floor master bedroom, with double bed, opens onto the rear garden terrace through a set of double doors.
It has an ensuite bathroom with an antique, free-standing bath and a separate walk-in shower. The second floor master suite comprises a master bedroom, with double bed and an ensuite bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower.
There is an additional dressing room/children's bedroom, with two single beds, which shares the ensuite bathroom. A separate, wooden staircase leads from the kitchen hall to a bedroom with double bed and ensuite walk-in shower.
This bedroom has easy access to the rear garden terrace. At the other end of the house, a spiral staircase leads to a twin bedded room with a door leading onto the rear garden terrace.
This staircase is not suitable for young children or those with limited mobility.
The bathroom with walk-in shower is on the ground floor directly below the bedroom.

The location of the house, in the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail (famous among rock climbers), is idyllic. There are several beautiful marked walking and cycling trails starting a few hundred metres away. Sablet is a ten minute stroll, while Séguret (officially recognised as one of France's most beautiful villages) can be reached on foot along a delightful track within thirty minutes.
In the village of Sablet you will find shops for everyday needs, including bakery, butcher, small supermarket and tabac. There is also a post office, pharmacy and medical centre. Every Friday there is a small market in the lively village square.
There is a café in the centre of the village with a traditional lunch menu. Next door is a popular takeaway pizzeria. There are numerous other restaurants a short drive away.
Le Four à Chaux is located in the Vaucluse in northern Provence, a wine producing region rich in history and with plenty of sunshine. Within a short distance you will find the picturesque villages of Gigondas, Vacqueras, Rasteau, Cairanne, Villedieu and many more.
Mont Ventoux, the famous landmark of the Tour de France, is nearby and offers splendid views over the region and beyond.
The papal city of Avignon is a short drive away, and the Roman cities of Nîmes, Arles and Aix-en-Provence - well known for their festivals and museums - are all within comfortable driving distance.
Within a twenty kilometre radius are the Roman towns of Vaison-la-Romaine, Carpentras and Orange with their historical sites, Roman ruins, and ancient theatres where events are staged throughout the summer months.
Further afield are the cities of Marseille and Montpellier, the beaches of the Mediterranean, the National Parks of the Camargue and the Vercors, and the canyons of the Ardèche and the Verdon rivers.
