The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, often abbreviated as "the Met", is one of the largest art museums in the world. Open to the public since February 20, 1872 and is located in Manhattan, near Central Park on Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street height.
The collections of the Met more than two million works of art from around the world and representing a diverse range of objects.
Visitors can admire the treasures of antiquity, such as those described in Greek and Cypriot galleries, to paintings and sculptures of all the great European masters, to a large collection of American art. The collections are made up of Egyptian works, African, Asian, Oceanic, Middle Eastern, Byzantine and Islamic.
