Fort Carré

Located on the peninsula of Saint-Roch, the Fort is built on a rock rising to 26 meters above sea level The walkway is 43 feet above the sea and allows monitoring to 360 degrees. Since ancient times, the site is a place of worship with a Roman temple dedicated to Mercury. Replaced at the beginning of the Christian era by one of the first churches in the city, the Saint-Michel, abandoned around the eleventh century, was erected on its ruins a smaller chapel dedicated to St. Lawrence.
