The Hotel Des Grands Vins was built in 1985 with the aim of accommodating guests in a convivial, relaxing and comfortable setting at the heart of the vintage vineyards of Beaujolais. The current owner, a former wine producer from Fleurie, took over the hotel in 2005 and has perpetuated the tradition of offering a warm welcome and service in a family atmosphere but has also improved the facilities by adding a swimming pool with bar, a fish pond at the front of the hotel, a real treat for the eyes, a wooden terrace for enjoying an "alfresco" breakfast in summer and more recently a veranda which has enabled us to extend the lounge area.
Located right at the heart of the vineyards of Beaujolais, there is no shortage of things to see and do. A rich wine-producing heritage with many vineyards (including the Fonfotin domain, property of the hotel owner), the cooperative cellars of the different villages and, close to Fleurie, in Romanèche-Thorins, George Duboeuf's "Wine Hamlet" museum and exhibition centre, the Tradeguilds museum and Tourparc animal park. Other places to see include the chapels of Fleurie (La Madone) and Mont Brouilly; the different chateaux of the region; Beaujeu, the ancient capital of Beaujolais and Villefranche sur Saône the modern-day capital; Brou church in Bourg en Bresse, the rock of Solutré?
