Glanum site is remarkable for the beauty of its staging in the landscape of the Alpilles, south of the downtown's current Saint Remy de Provence. It is one of the major ancient sites in the South of France, as well as Vienna, Vaison la Romaine, the Pont du Gard, Nîmes, Arles, and Marseilles. The earliest traces of occupation dating back to the first millennium BC, as evidenced by the recent discovery of a protected habitat of fortifications dating from the Iron Age.
